Marco Falcone, a lawyer and former Councillor for the Economy of the Sicilian Region, served as a member of the ARS for four legislatures. He was the Regional Councillor for Infrastructure for five years. A candidate for Forza Italia in Sicily and Sardinia in the European elections of June 2024, he was elected to the European Parliament with over 100,000 votes. His political career began with his involvement in centre-right youth organisations in Sicily. In 1993, he gained public attention when he was elected, at just 22 years of age, Mayor of his hometown, Mirabella Imbaccari (a municipality near Caltagirone and Piazza Armerina, in the province of Catania). He was the youngest mayor in Italy and was re-elected in 1997. In 2003, during the elections for the province of Catania, he received the most votes in his constituency. This led to his appointment as Councillor for Territorial Policies in the provincial administration, a position he held until 2008. That same year, he was elected Regional Deputy to the ARS as a member of the Popolo della Libertà (PdL), a centre-right party. In the 2012 regional elections, he was re-elected to the ARS. He then joined the reconstituted Forza Italia and, in 2014, was elected Chairman of the Blue Group, positioning him as the head of the main opposition force to the Crocetta Regional Government. In 2017, with over 12,000 votes in Catania and the province as the head of the Forza Italia list, Falcone returned to the ARS. He was then appointed Councillor for Infrastructure and Mobility in the Musumeci Regional Government, a position he held for five years. In 2019, he became Commissioner of Forza Italia Catania, leading the rebuilding of the Blue Movement in the province. In 2022, after receiving over 13,000 votes for Forza Italia, he was elected for the fourth time as a deputy to the ARS. The President of the Region, Renato Schifani, appointed him Regional Councillor for the Economy, also entrusting him with the Delegation for Programming. Under his leadership, Sicily approved the Financial Law - within the legal timeframe - for the first time in over twenty years, avoiding the provisional exercise. In January 2024, he was elected Provincial Secretary of Forza Italia in Catania. A few weeks later, he accepted the proposal of Forza Italia’s National Secretary, Antonio Tajani, to run in the European elections of June 2024 for Insular Italy. He received 100,233 votes in Sicily and Sardinia and was elected to the European Parliament. He has since been elected Vice-Chairman of the Italian Delegation in the EPP Group.
