BIO

Enikő Győri was born on 17 July 1968 in Budapest, Hungary.

She graduated at the Budapest University of Economics, Faculty of International Relations in 1992 in Hungary. The same year, she spent a term at the University of Maryland, College Park, USA, studying social sciences with a scholarship. Later, in 2000 she earned her PhD degree at the same Budapest University. She also participated in numerous traineeships, among others at the French National Assembly (1998), the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (1997), the European Commission (1995), with AIESEC training programmes in Mexico (1990) and Spain (1989), as well as in a programme for civil servants organised by l’École Nationale d’Administration, Paris (1997).

Ms Győri started to work for the Hungarian National Assembly as a civil servant in 1992. She was the adviser and later the chief adviser on the Committee on European Affairs, and, parallel, the co-secretary of the EU-Hungary Joint Parliamentary Committee. She served as Ambassador of Hungary to Italy between 1999-2003, and worked as Head of EU Staff of the FIDESZ Political Group at the Hungarian National Assembly between 2003-2009.

Between 2010-2014, she served as Minister of State for European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hungary, coordinating the 2011 Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU. Between 2014-2019 she was Ambassador of Hungary to Spain.

Besides the above duties, she worked as Director of the think-tank Free Europe Centre, as President of the Budapest Italian Forum, Member of the Board of the monthly Political Science Review and the quarterly Európai Tükör, as well as a lecturer at Eszterházy Teachers’ College of Eger and the ELTE University of Budapest.

She is holder of numerous awards: National Order of the Legion of Honour of France (2013), Commander of the Order of the Belgian Crown (2012), Grand Cross of the Spanish Order of Civil Merit (2011), Medal of Honour of the President of the Republic of Hungary (2011) and Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy (2002).

She is Honorary Ambassador of both the Hungarian Ladies' Wine Order Pannonia, Hungary (since 2015) and Ladies' Wine Order AMAVI (Asociacion de Mujeres Amantes de la Cultura del Vino) of Spain (since 2017).

In this current term, she is a Member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, the Committee on International Trade and the Delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, while she is a substitute Member of the Delegation to the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee and the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly. Within the International Trade Committee, she is the Standing Rapporteur for EU-Ukraine relations, chairing the Ukraine Monitoring Group. She also serves as the Coordinator of the Hungarian Delegation of the EPP Group.

She speaks Hungarian, English, Spanish, Italian and French.
