We will defeat terrorism when we unite with our allies to offer a better future to the young men and women

The memorandum of understanding between the EU and the League of Arab States offers the occasion of a deeper and better cooperation in fighting against terrorism, considers Ramona Manescu, member of AFET Committee, after signing the related resolution.

“The key to defeating terrorism is a coordinated effort between all parties who are committed to peace and democracy, said the MEP, during the last week plenary session in Strasbourg. I am encouraged by the Memorandum of understanding between the EU and the League of Arab States and I believe we must also work closely with the African Union, and the Gulf Cooperation Council, as well as the UN's Counter-Terrorism Committee”.

Ramona Manescu explained that it is essential to have effective and intelligent cooperation with all our partners, sharing information about firearm trafficking and terrorist financing, and learning from previous mistakes.

The counter-terrorism strategy should be considered as part of a bigger picture, fully integrated with our foreign and development policies. In order to defeat terrorism, we must also understand its underlying causes, such as poverty, hopelessness and a lack of the governance.
