The ceremonial of singing the regulation abolishing or reducing trade tariff barriers on certain Ukrainian goods was held today in the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The Rapporteur, Paweł Zalewski MEP signed the document together with the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz and the Chair of the International Trade Committee Vital Moreira.

Thanks to the introduction of these measures, the Ukrainian economy will save up to around €500m this year, according to the European Commission's estimates.

"The introduction of unilateral trade preferences and the opening of the EU to Ukrainian goods is particularly important in the situation of continuous aggression on Eastern Ukraine. I am convinced that this regulation will improve the economic situation of the country", said  Mr.Zalewski.

Thanks to the introduction of these measures, the Ukrainian economy will save up to around €500m this year, according to the European Commission's estimates. The regulation will enter into force in May and will be in force until Ukraine signs the Association Agreement (until 1 November 2014 at the latest). The regulation contains safeguards in case the export of Ukrainian products would raise to a level that would harm European producers.

"This solution shows the determination of the European Parliament to support Ukraine. It is good, that in face of Kremlin's aggression on Eastern Ukraine, we consistently show our solidarity by adopting concrete measures", concluded Mr Zalewski.
