Giving Schengen databank muscle to secure borders
The European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs approved reports on three pieces of legislation calling for greater access and use of the Schengen Information System to track down criminals, terrorists and migrants who are denied asylum. EPP Group MEPs Carlos Coelho and Jeroen Lenaers authored the reports that require Member States to use the system to alert the 30 participating countries. The legislation would also allow protective child custody and would grant Europol access to the databank.
