The Week ahead
The EPP Group is proud to present Roberta Metsola as its candidate for the President of the European Parliament. With her fresh, young and open style of leadership, she has become the face of European democracy over the last two and a half years. The election will take place on Tuesday morning.
Director, Press
In the run-up to the European elections, the EPP Group elected Ursula von der Leyen as its Spitzenkandidat to become the next President of the European Commission. She is also the EU Member States' candidate for this position, as of the EU Summit on 27 July. For the EPP Group, the priorities for the new mandate will be to step up European security and defence, massively boost European economic competitiveness, preserve the European way of life and strengthen democracy and the rule of law. Ursula von der Leyen has the full support of the EPP Group. The vote will take place on Thursday at 13.00. Having won the European elections, the EPP Group, with 188 MEPs, is the largest and most influential political group in the European Parliament. Additionally, forming any majority will be impossible without the EPP Group's support.
Chairman of the EPP Group
On Wednesday evening, the EPP Group will elect its leaders in all 24 Parliamentary Committees. The 'coordinators' will chair the EPP Group and negotiate on its behalf in the respective Committees. They will be the EPP Group's spokespeople on the topics of the Committees.
