Discussing the future of Europe, EPP Group Study Days, Nice, 1-3 June

The future of the European Union and the link between Europe and the Mediterranean will be the key themes of the EPP Group Study Days in Nice, France, which take place from 1-3 June 2016.

“Europe is unique. And France is one of the pillars of Europe. We’re coming to Nice to talk about fundamental questions. We see everywhere that populism and nationalism are getting stronger and their simple and easy answers to complex problems are becoming increasingly attractive. Many people are not aware how valuable Europe is. We want a better functioning Europe. We need to work together on issues such as security or limiting migration. This is the only way to tackle the problems. It is up to us to ensure safety and stability for all Europeans. This is what we will discuss in Nice", declared Manfred Weber MEP, Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament.

“We are very happy to welcome the EPP Group to Nice, a city that has supported centre-right parties for a long time and a city that is symbolic of Europe. While the populists keep on gaining supporters on the sole promise that they are going to destroy the European Union, the EPP Group thinks on the contrary; the EU is the best tool to protect the citizens”, explained Alain Lamassoure MEP, Head of the French Delegation of the EPP Group.

“Thus, these Study Days are a good occasion to exchange views with many experts on matters that count for EU citizens, first of all the future of their Union, and to try to find concrete and realistic solutions to the crises that are jeopardising the European edifice. We have to restructure Europe to ensure the durability of the European project!” said Francoise Grossetête MEP, Vice-Chairwoman of the EPP Group responsible for Economy and Environment.

Wednesday and Thursday’s programmes centre on the future of Europe with several discussions, especially on the EPP Group’s Position Paper on the subject introduced by Paulo Rangel MEP, Vice-Chairman and Treasurer of the EPP Group responsible for the EIN, Future of Europe, and Vice-President of the European People’s Party.

Nicolas Sarkozy, former President of the French Republic and President of the Republican Party will intervene as a guest speaker on Wednesday afternoon.

Relations between Europe and the Mediterranean is the theme for Friday’s Study Days with an exchange of views and the adoption of a Position Paper introduced by Mariya Gabriel MEP, Vice-Chairwoman of the EPP Group responsible for the Mediterranean Union and Euromed.
