Croatian Referendum: I trust in the Croatian people.
Commenting on the Croatian Referendum on Sunday 22 January 2012, the EP Rapporteur on Croatia, Bavarian MEP Bernd Posselt of the Group of the European People's Party, the biggest political group in the European Parliament, said: "I trust in the Croatian people. About 20 years ago, this Central European nation founded a functioning democracy, stopped foreign aggression and built up peaceful relations with its neighbours. In a long and hard way, the Croats negotiated successfully with the European Union, and will become one of the best-prepared members of this community, working for a strong Europe on the base of freedom and Christian values. I am convinced that a huge majority of Croats will conclude the impressive work by all democratic parties of Croatia over the last years with a clear YES. It would be tragic if, due to a failure of the referendum, Croatia would end up behind Serbia in the line of candidate countries. A clear YES on Sunday will prevent this .
