Brexit: EU leaders must show unity and clarity
Ahead of the European Council meeting on 29 April which will focus on the Council’s political guidelines for Brexit negotiations, Manfred Weber, the Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, said:
“Our priorities are threefold: we first negotiate the divorce, then we talk about the future Treaty. We need to put an end to the uncertainty in which citizens concerned are living. And finally, the Northern Ireland question is important. What is also clear is that a country that has decided to leave the European Union cannot have a better deal than a Member State of the European Union. Cherry-picking is over.”
“The EPP Group welcomes the unity and clarity shown by the 27 Member States on the upcoming Brexit negotiations”, he said. “Tomorrow at the European Council, we expect the EU Heads of State and Government to show the same unity and cohesion; it is crucial if we want to defend the interests of European citizens efficiently.”
