10 Inspiring Stories - Celebrating the Landmark Achievement of the 2024 EU Enlargement

Twenty years ago, a new, larger Union was born. The enlargement that took place two decades ago changed the EU forever. Together, we've invested in security, prosperity and stable democracies while upholding our shared values of freedom, equality and justice. Today, we stand proud of Europe's achievements and remain committed to a stronger, more unified Union.  

In the 20 years since the EU's 2004 enlargement, nations like Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Cyprus and Malta have contributed to Europe's future.  

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Europe's historic enlargement in 2004, the EPP Group produced a series of videos across Member States showcasing the positive transformations resulting from EU accession.   

Youths from these countries, born exactly 20 years ago, shared their perspectives on EU accession, highlighting the myriad opportunities it has unlocked.   

From enhanced education and employment prospects to freedom to travel and equality among EU states, these young voices underscore the enduring impact of their parents' decisions.
