#DiscoverEU: EPP Group launches campaign for 18th-birthday free Interrail ticket

The EPP Group in the European Parliament today launched a campaign to gather support for the initiative of a free Interrail ticket for every European on their 18th birthday, with the aim of strengthening the European identity of young people.

“When I was a young student I travelled for the first time to Great Britain and Sicily with an Interrail ticket. It was a fascinating experience. I felt European for the first time. I want all European young people to experience this too. This will motivate them to discover Europe for themselves, make new friends abroad and develop a genuine feeling for what this continent represents” said Manfred Weber, the EPP Group Chairman.

“We pushed for this initiative. We are progressing step by step.  The announcement by  the European Commission today, of its Mobility initiative is already a very positive signal.  To keep up this great momentum we are asking European citizens to help by sharing their experiences of travelling in Europe under the hashtag #DiscoverEU and to promote this initiative on your social networks. We need help  from all European citizens for this to become a reality "
