BIO

Born on 14 June 1979 in Martin, Slovakia, Michal Wiezik is an associate Professor in Ecology, scientist and expert in landscape ecology, land-use, entomology and management of protected areas. He acted as Vice-Dean for Science and PhD studies for 8 years at the Faculty of Ecology and Environmental Sciences of the Technical University in Zvolen, Slovakia.

During his postgraduate studies, he focused on ecological stability of forests. He conducted several scientific projects related to environmental impact assessment, published a number of scientific papers, policy concepts on nature conservation. He was also the lead scientist behind the strategy for the protection of the Carpathian Beech Forest World Heritage site and is currently contributing to the concept of ecotourism in Slovakia.

In the current ninth term of the European Parliament (2019-2024), Mr Wiezik is a Member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) and the Delegation for Relations with Iran (D-IR). He is also a Substitute Member for the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI), the Delegation for relations with the countries of Central America (DCAM), the Delegation for relations with the countries of the Andean Community (DAND) and the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (DLAT). 

As an ecologist and a scientist, in the European Parliament, Mr Wiezik works on the European Green Deal and its strategies.
