Liudas Mažylis was born on 19 May 1954 in Kaunas (Lithuania) and is a Doctor in Chemistry, Professor of Political Science, and Honorary Professor of Humanities of the Vytautas Magnus University. In 1990, he became involved in the Lithuanian pro-Independence Movement Sąjūdis and its activities, and was a Member of Kaunas City Council. Between 1990 and 1993, he was the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Kauno Laikas, a founding member of the Lithuanian Society of Journalists. In 1993 to 1998, he became a press officer and the Head of the Press Centre for the Kaunas City Municipality. In 1995, he became a Member of the Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party (known as HU-LCD since 2008). From 1997 until 2019, he worked and lectured at Vytautas Magnus University, at the Faculty of Political Science and Diplomacy. In 2019, he was elected as a Member of the European Parliament. Liudas Mažylis is a Member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and a Substitute Member of the Committee on International Trade. He is also a Member of the Delegation for relations with Belarus (D-BY), a Member of the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly (DEPA) and a Substitute Member of the Delegation for Northern cooperation and for relations with Switzerland and Norway and to the EU-Iceland Joint Parliamentary Committee and the European Economic Area (EEA) Joint Parliamentary Committee (DEEA). MEP since 2019.
