Member of the Slovak National Council for the Party "Coexistence", 1990-1998. Member of the Committee for Education, Science, Culture and Sports, 1990-1992. Chairperson of the Subcommittee for Science, 1992-1994. Member of the Environment Committee, 1994-1998. Secretary of State for the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the SR, 1998-2002. Vice-President of SMK-MKP for Social Policy, 2000-2004. Member of the National Council of Slovakia, 2002-2004, Vice-Chair of the Social Affairs and Housing Committee, Member of the Committee for European Integration, Member of the Slovak Delegation to the CoE Parliamentary Assembly. Member of the Slovak Delegation to the JPC EU-Slovak Republic. Observer in the EP, 2003-2004. MEP since 2004.
