Centre-right MEP Siegfried Mureșan (EPP/PMP) will be European Parliament’s (EP) general rapporteur for the general budget of the European Union for 2018, the EP Committee on Budgets decided today. Siegfried Mureșan is the first ever Romanian Member of the European Parliament to hold this position.

MEP Mureșan is the Vice-Chair of the Committee on Budgets and has already worked on the EU budget. In 2016, he was EPP Group’s shadow rapporteur for the general budget of the European Union for 2017, and was part of the European Parliament delegation to the Conciliation Committee where the 2017 EU Budget, amounting to EUR 158 billion, was approved.

„It is an honour to take up this role. Negotiating the EU annual budget, which amounted to 155-160 billion EUR in the past years, is a very important mission and it comes with a great degree of responsibility. It is essential to continue financing EU’s priorities of economic growth through investments in infrastructure, research, innovation and youth employment, but also on strengthening the security of the European citizens”, said the centre-right MEP Siegfried Mureșan.
