Today in Brussels MEP Peter Agius addressed the EPP group meeting with a call for Europe to pass from words to action on rule of law in the face of Government’s move to block magisterial enquires into corrupt polititions through the bill of law presented in Parliament this week.

‘Thanks to the courage of Simon Busuttil and David Casa, we now have a criminal investigation on those behind 17 black and electrogas. This sends a message of hope to all Maltese of good will, but not to Robert Ablea. The Labour Goverment wants to discourage justice, they want to block Magisterial enquiries, taking away the only tool for the people to see that the law prevails over abuse of power.’ said MEP Peter Agius in his address to EPP Leader Manfred Weber and MEPs from all over Europe meeting for the first time this year in the EPP Group meeting in Brussels.

‘My party back at home is fighting tooth and nail to defend Maltese and European freedoms, to defend taxpayer money, to defend our democracy. We will be asking for your continued support to make sure that Robert Abela does not bypass rule of law standards through his double-faced politics in Europe. The EPP will stand strong once again with Malta and the Maltese for we believe that no corrupt politician should run away scots free with tax payer money as they are doing with the 400 million Vitals and Electrogas deals.’ concluded MEP Peter Agius.
