Soviet crushing of 1968 Prague Spring echoes today's events
Marking the 50th anniversary of the Prague Spring, EPP Group MEPs held a conference discussing Russian interference in Europe then and now. Jaromír Štětina was fired as a journalist and now battles against Russian-backed fake news which is stirring populism in Europe. Slovak MEP Ivan Štefanec says the exhibit, in tandem with the conference, aims to bring attention to the dangers Russia posed to Europe in 1968 as well as current actions, including interference in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea. EPP Group Chairman Manfred Weber says Russian-fuelled populism in Europe is a threat today, as the elections approach next spring.
