EPP Group elects leaders in new parliamentary committees

Committees

The EPP Group today elected its leaders in three new parliamentary committees which will look into the abuse of spyware by EU governments, malicious foreign interference, and lessons to be drawn from the COVID pandemic.

The so-called Coordinators are the speakers of the EPP Group in their respective committees. They chair and coordinate the work of the Group in the committees.

Juan Ignacio Zoido Álvarez MEP is the EPP Group Coordinator in the Committee of Inquiry to investigate the abuse of Pegasus and equivalent surveillance spyware (PEGA).

Vladimír Bilčík MEP is the EPP Group Coordinator in the Special Committee on Foreign Interference in all Democratic Processes in the European Union, including Disinformation II (ING2). This committee builds upon the work done by its homonymous predecessor.

Stelios Kympouropoulos MEP is the EPP Group Coordinator in the Special Committee on the COVID-19 pandemic: lessons learned and recommendations for the future (COVI).

The European Parliament decided at the beginning of March to set up these new committees. Starting from their constitutive meetings, which will take place in the next couple of weeks, each new committee will have twelve months to compile its recommendations.
