"Supporting Moldova on its European path is a top priority for us in the EPP Group,” said Siegfried Mureșan MEP tonight, after the European Parliament, the European Commission, and EU Member States reached an agreement on the 'Moldova Growth Facility', a new EU fund that will support Moldova until 2027.

“We have secured an increase from 7 to 18 per cent in pre-financing and €100 million in the total allocation of the Moldova Growth Facility. This support will help Moldova modernise, implement the reforms necessary for EU integration, and address the economic and energy impacts of Russia’s recent gas blackmail,” added Mr Mureșan, the Parliament’s co-negotiator of the initiative.

“Moldovans have repeatedly confirmed their commitment to the European path, and we must respond to their aspirations. The Fund will help the Moldovan Government to implement the reforms required for future EU Membership. A stable, prosperous and democratic Moldova is not only in the interest of Moldovans but also greatly contributes to our own security,“ said Andrzej Halicki MEP, the EPP Group’s Vice-Chair in charge of Foreign Affairs.

“This ambitious agreement proves Europe is ready to act, especially in light of recent geopolitical developments,” concluded Mureșan.

The funds will be made available to Moldova under strict conditions and according to the implementation of reforms agreed with the European Commission.
