Europass: popular CV system revamped
“With more than 60 million CVs, Europass is one of the most successful and cost-effective initiatives of the past ten years. It must be our main goal to support educational and working mobility in Europe in the best way possible. This is why we need to work to improve this amazing tool”, said EPP Group MEPs Thomas Mann and Svetoslav Hriostov Malinov, after today's Committee vote on the revision of the Europass framework.
This service helps people communicate their skills and experience through the use of standardised document templates. The Report adopted today aims at revising the system by setting up a European-wide platform which will provide online services to citizens such as the creation of an e-portfolio and skills assessment. It will also provide information on learning opportunities, qualifications, recognition of the qualifications and data on the labour market. The platform should help career development and facilitate the exchange of information of skills qualifications in order to support mobility across professions, sectors, regions and borders.
"In times of youth unemployment in many of the EU Member States, it is our duty to support learners, jobseekers, employers and other stakeholders regardless of where they are from. It is of key importance to raise public awareness so that Europass thus becomes a common European trademark for an application portfolio that combines and presents important information", explained Thomas Mann, the European Parliament’s Spokesman for the revision of Europass in the Employment and Social Affairs Committee.
For Svetoslav Hristov Malinov, Parliament’s Spokesman in the Culture and Education Committee, the main objective of Europass must be to ensure better synergies with other online tools in the same domain in order to allow matching, reuse and integration data: "The talent, energy and creativity will help Europe grow and increase its competitiveness by promoting and facilitating mobility for learners through a better use of all EU tools and programmes. The future dynamism and future prosperity of Europe are in our hands. Let’s make the Europass a European success story.”
