Erasmus+ puts people first

My daughters are turning 8 and 10 this year. In just a few years they will be able to participate in the greatest programme ever designed by the European Parliament. I remember the work we put into making it happen and I think that this is such a great opportunity, one which my generation, as well as my parents' generation in Poland never had.

The new Erasmus+ programme especially offers a great chance to move, to create new contacts and gain different experiences, not only at universities but also in various institutions.

Unfortunately, I couldn't participate in an Erasmus programme, but I strongly believe that this successful project will continue, and many young Europeans, my daughters included, will have the chance to be a part of it.

Since the launch of Erasmus in 1987, around 3 million students have benefited from this best-known of all European programmes. It has enriched students’ academic knowledge and professional competences and supported their personal development.

Throughout the Erasmus+ programme, from 2014-2020, the European Union will provide new opportunities for around 2 million European students and academics to study and improve their skills abroad, which will give them better prospects for the future. Erasmus+ brings together the EU education, training and youth programmes Comenius, Erasmus, Erasmus Mundus, Leonardo da Vinci (professional training) and Grundtvig under a single umbrella, and includes sport for the first time.

The effects of this programme will definitely positively influence their entire life, through contact with different cultures and languages. Erasmus+ means also friendly relations among participants from different countries of the world, which often last a lifetime.
