The Week ahead

EPP Group Bureau Meeting in Paris

From 26 to 28 March 2025, the EPP Group will convene in Paris, France, for internal meetings. Discussions will focus on improving the security of Europeans, a top priority for the EPP Group. This strategic meeting will address key issues such as strengthening Europe's security and defence procurement. "We are living in a moment of truth. If Europe does not take care of itself, no one will do it for us. Strengthening our countries and the EU in this period of uncertainty will not only mean ensuring our autonomy in defence but also pulling our economy out of decline and protecting our borders—absolute conditions for controlling our destiny," explains EPP Group Vice-Chair François-Xavier Bellamy MEP.

The EPP Group is committed to ensuring that Europe is well prepared to face future crises and safeguard our democracy, values and security. On Wednesday, the European Commission will present its EU Preparedness Union Strategy. “Preparedness is a mindset: it requires a whole-of-government, whole-of-society, all-scenarios approach. Preparedness requires breaking down the silos between internal and external security and bridging capabilities and structures between the military and the civilian sides of security,” says Lena Düpont MEP,  the EPP Group Spokeswoman on Home Affairs. “The EU Civil Protection Mechanism is really important in these times of geopolitical instability, climate change and public health crises. We learned from the COVID-19 pandemic that it is crucial to be prepared and that emergencies can arise out of nowhere and do not stop at borders. We should not rely on others to help us, but strengthen our own preparedness,” says Peter Liese MEP, the EPP Group Spokesman on the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
