EPP Group debates Europe's 'Kyiv Moment' in Czech Republic
The leadership of the EPP Group is heading to the Czech Republic. From today Wednesday 27 to Friday 29 April, MEPs will hold talks in Prague with Czech political leaders and a number of high-level foreign guests about Europe's 'Kyiv Moment', the consequences of the Russian war for Europe's security, for Europe's way of life and for Europe's role in the world.
“The Russian war in Ukraine has been a major challenge for the countries of Central Europe. Like the Czech Republic, they have handled the incoming refugees in an exceptional way, Prague sent heavy weapons to Ukraine and was an important driver for a strong and united European sanctions packages. I look forward to an inspiring debate with domestic leaders from the EPP family, as well as a number of international guests”, said Manfred Weber MEP, Chairman of the EPP Group.
“Energy and sanctions against Russia will be major topics of our discussion. Especially with regard to gas supplies to the EU in recent hours. Putin does not want to stop. We must look for ways of buying as little gas and oil from Russia as possible”, said Luděk Niedermayer MEP (TOP 09 Party).
“In the last two months, the Czech Republic has shown a great example of how to help a close ally in crisis. In Ukraine, the fight is for all of us. We want to talk about how to help Ukraine even more”, said Tomáš Zdechovský MEP (KDU-ČSL Party).
Among 30 high-level guests will be the Chairs of the Czech parties in the EPP - KDU-ČSL Chair Marian Jurečka and TOP 09 Chair Markéta Pekarová Adamová.
The EPP Group will also exchange views with Maia Sandu, President of the Republic of Moldova, Nicolae Ciuca, Prime Minister of Romania, Vitali Klitschko, Mayor of Kyiv, Günther Oettinger, Former European Commissioner for Energy, Budget and Digital Society, or Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Russian opposition activist.
