EPP Group bolsters connections with UEMF in Morocco
Students from the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fes ask for the extension of the European Youth Event - EYE - to Southern Mediterranean countries during visit of EPP Group delegation
The Euro-Mediterranean University (UEMF), based in Fes, Morocco, is financed by the EU through the Union for the Mediterranean and four development projects to foster education, mobility and socio-professional integration of the young generation in the region.
"Education is the main tool for the sustainable development of a society. I am very pleased to see the tangible results achieved by the first Euro-Mediterranean University in Fes, which is investing so much in developing potential and integrating the younger generation of the region. Only through encouraging job creation and economic growth, will Africa meet the challenges of tomorrow. The European Union is its integral partner in this effort", said Andrey Kovatchev MEP.
The EPP Group supports the Euromed policy because it contributes to a better understanding between the EU and its Mediterranean partners and regular visits of EPP Group Members are a way to better understand our partners from the Mediterranean.
During their visit to Fes, three MEPs - EPP Group Vice-Chairman Andrey Kovatchev, Santiago Fisas-Ayxelà and Francis Zammit-Dimech - also had meetings with politicians, among which Nizar Baraka, President of the Istiqlal Party, an EPP partner, the President of the Fes-Meknes Region, the Mayor of Fes and the Director of the EU at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The EPP Group delegation discussed Morocco's anti-radicalisation strategy, migration, foreign policy and trade.
