EPP Group calls for European Security Pact against organised crime

Security

Today, the EPP Group is set to adopt the Stockholm Declaration, calling for a European Security Pact to combat organised crime. These demands are a central part of the EPP Group’s long-term priorities for the new European Commission mandate.

"Security is our top priority. We are the party of law and order, and Europe must remain safe and secure for all citizens," said Manfred Weber MEP, EPP Group Chairman.

The Declaration calls for restricting EU freedom of movement for gang criminals, as over 70% of criminal networks operate across borders. "Schengen is for citizens, not criminals. We cannot allow criminals to exploit the EU’s freedom of movement to fuel gang violence," said EPP Group Vice-Chair Tomas Tobé MEP.

Stressing the need for bold action, Tobé stated, "Europe needs a strong security pact. Without security, there is no freedom. This Declaration shows our unwavering commitment to making Europe safer, now and for future generations. Our Union is for citizens, not criminals."

The full text of the Stockholm Declaration will be available here later today.
