The EPP Group today elected its leader in Parliament’s new committee on Public Health (SANT).

Tomislav Sokol MEP will serve as a so-called Coordinator. He will be the speaker of the EPP Group in the committee and will chair and coordinate the Group’s work.

“The EPP Group aims to strengthen EU healthcare policies, address issues such as medicine and medical device shortages, improve access to healthcare, improve disease treatment and prevention, and promote cross-border cooperation in healthcare. The European Medicines Agency and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control will also be closely monitored by the subcommittee”, Sokol said.

Among others, Sokol has been the Parliament’s negotiator of the law proposal for a European Health Data Space. He is also a member of the Special Committee on the COVID-19 pandemic: lessons learned and recommendations for the future (COVI).

The constitutive meeting of the new Sub-committee will take place later this week.
